Can I Trust The Bible?

Have you ever wondered if the Bible is trustworthy? It’s natural to wonder if its words have been preserved accurately through the ages or if they’ve been altered. Are these really the words of Jesus or was it just what people would have wanted Jesus to say to start a new religion? And what about the thousands of differences between what's in the Bible now and what the earliest manuscripts say? These are serious questions that have been around for a long time, learning about the Bible’s history not only provides new answers but also leads to deeper questions.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do people criticize or critique the Bible in our culture? Can you name any specific examples?

  2. Why do you think the Bible is criticized as a corrupted or altered book when it has more remaining copies of the original letters than any other ancient text or book?

  3. How does it make you feel that most of the 99% differences in the earliest copies of the Bible are differences in spelling or minor enough that they do not change the meaning of a passage in the Bible?

  4. Does what you have learned make you more or less confident in looking to the Bible for spiritual direction?
